What this policy covers

This policy explains how MacSpotter.com (“MacSpotter,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you browse the site, create an account, or request a Mac pickup alert. MacSpotter is an independent service and is not affiliated with Apple Inc.

Information we collect

Account information

Clerk provides our authentication service. When you sign in or create an account, we receive an account identifier and your verified email address. Clerk may process the authentication information you provide and use cookies or similar technologies to keep you signed in and protect your account.

Alert information

If you create an alert, we store your verified email address, Clerk account identifier, selected Mac configuration, requested ZIP code or location, alert status, timestamps, an unsubscribe token, and records needed to prevent duplicate alert emails.

Technical information

Our hosting, security, and authentication providers may automatically process basic request information such as IP address, browser and device details, referring page, requested pages, timestamps, cookies, and security or error logs. If you choose “Use my current location,” your browser provides coordinates for the lookup; MacSpotter does not store those coordinates as part of an alert unless you separately submit a location.

Analytics and session replay

We use PostHog to understand how the Service is used and to diagnose problems. PostHog may process pages viewed, feature interactions, approximate device and network information, performance data, and application errors. It may also create a visual replay of a browsing session. Form inputs are masked, and MacSpotter redacts location query values from analytics URLs before events are sent. Session replay is used for product improvement and troubleshooting, not advertising.

How we use information

  • Provide nearby pickup results and requested email alerts.
  • Authenticate users and let them pause, resume, or delete alerts.
  • Operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service.
  • Prevent abuse, duplicate notifications, and unauthorized account access.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral ads.

When information is shared

We share information only as needed with service providers that help run MacSpotter, including Clerk for authentication, Cloudflare for hosting, database, security, and email delivery, and PostHog for product analytics and masked session replay. Those providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets with appropriate safeguards.

When you follow a link to Apple or another third-party site, that site receives your request and handles it under its own privacy policy. MacSpotter does not control those sites.

Retention and your choices

Alert records are kept while the alert or account is active and for only as long as reasonably needed to operate, secure, and document the service afterward. Deleting an alert removes its alert and notification-delivery records from our active database. When Clerk tells us an account was deleted, we delete that account’s alert records. Limited information may remain temporarily in backups, security logs, or records we must retain by law.

You can pause or delete an alert from the alerts page, use the unsubscribe link in an email, or manage your account through Clerk. You may also ask to access, correct, or delete personal information by emailing us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional privacy rights and a right to appeal our response.

Security and children

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect personal information, but no online system is completely secure. MacSpotter is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post the revised policy here and update its effective date. For privacy questions or requests, email privacy@macspotter.com.
